Roald Dahl and the Children's Book Factory | The New Republic
A piece for the New Republic podcast, The Politics of Everything, on Roald Dahl and the "edits" being made to his books for new editions. The podcast explores the recent changes to Dahl's books, Dahl's legacy and the nastiness of his work, and the real reason to why these alterations are being made.
This portrait was an interesting challenge. I loved some of Dahl's stories as a child but I am also Jewish and let's just say he wasn't a fan. I wanted to try creating a piece that acknowledged his complicated legacy while also highlighting the stories that colored my childhood for the better.
